the wounded healer

(a term coined by depth psychologist Carl Gustav Jung)

This archetypal reality describes the phenomenon wherein the suffering of the “helper” ultimately aids in cultivating a lived empathic understanding of the distress of the “helped”, thereby diminishing the divide between the two and in fact acknowledging the innate alignment, creating less unnecessary and harmful [perceived] separation between the [supposed] two. In other words, beyond our roles, we are unified, one. Not so separate after all.
